Petroleum Coke
Green delayed petroleum coke is a by-product of the oil refining process. Residual components from heavy crude oil are fed into a furnace with temperatures up to 500 degrees centigrade then discharged into a coke drum for extensive and controlled cracking. The cracked lighter product rises to the top of the drum and is drawn off while the heavier compounds remain and when subsequently cooled, become petroleum coke.
Pulverized Petroleum Coke
Petroleum coke that has been pulverized, or ground to powder, is pulverized petroleum coke. The moisture in the powder is very low and the size is between 160-200 mesh. Also known as pulverized petcoke, the pulverized petroleum coke is transported by pneumatic tanker. Pulverized petcoke provides value added service to customers where it can save up to 50% of the total energy cost for manufacturers. OXY has an engineering team specializing in furnace conversion and has successfully converted numerous glass and porcelain furnaces from burning expensive fuels to burning pulverized petcoke.
Coal
Steam coal is a traditional and important energy source. OXY markets both Chinese domestic coal and coal imported from various sources: Russia, Indonesia, North America, etc. Steam coal is mainly used in power generation.
